new swaddler
So one of the best things that we can do to sooth our baby is to swaddle him up in a blanket. that is, to wrap him up like a burrito nice and tight so that his arms arent flailing everywhere. He always cries up a storm as we are doing it but is much calmer once it is done.
Well its only a matter of time before he breaks loose of even the tightest swaddle.
Some cultures actually tie their youngens up with rope. I wish i was in that culture.
Well we received a gift from someone the other day. its a swaddle blanket, with a bottom flap for the legs for easy diaper changing, and velcro tabs for a good strong hold.
I tried it out today and its okay. one thing thats not so great about it is that its made of a polar fleece type material so its pretty warm. another bad thing is that the velcro only works in specific places, and of course..i need those places to be just a tad bit bigger. But at least he can't break out of it.
we are just going to stick with the blankets for now, but it will be perfect for when it gets colder and he's a little biggerr.
Theresa and Pearl have been taking Akello on walks everyday in the neighborhood. For health, fresh air, and it seems to calm him..especially if they walk on the street versus the sidewalk,(cuzz of the vibration)

Do your swaddle blankets have any stretch at all? I found that to be the swaddling kiss of death... What worked best for us was using two non-stretchy cotton flannel Gerber receiving blankets. Swaddle with blanket A, then blanket B for extra security.
